Saint Louis Chinese Language School 2023 Fall Semester Opening Notice

Dear parents, teachers, and students,

As the 2023 Spring Semester came to a close, our Chinese school faced a building crisis due to a shortage of cleaning staff. The Rockwood School District decided to terminate all weekend rentals. In April, upon hearing this news, the school board members and volunteers actively began searching for a new facility. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our senior volunteer, Julie, we reached out to Mr. Ren Da Wei and Mr. Cui Xiao Fang from Efree Church, who generously assisted us. Finally, we secured a new location for the school (1375 Carman Rd, Ballwin, MO 63021) before the start of the Fall Semester. Gratitude!

The Chinese school's 2023 Fall Semester registration will begin with an early bird waiver of the registration fee on August 7th at 8 AM, and the early bird discount will end on August 24th. The official start of classes will be on Sunday, August 27th, at 1:45 PM.

In the new semester, the Chinese department has meticulously prepared Simplified Chinese classes, Bilingual classes, and also introduced an Adult Bilingual class for adults to learn Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We are delighted to have experienced teachers like Shen Wang,  Ni Ciang, Dan Zhang, Yu Wang, Lihua Zhao, Yueping Zhang, Haihong Liu, Hongyang Wang, Jingjia Hu, Aihua Shao, Jianping Li, Ee Ling Sea, and others continuing to serve the school. Additionally, we welcome new teachers like Baoqing Sun, Xinxin Lu Yuanzhen Xu, Lei Zhang, and others to join our teacher team. A warm welcome to our new and existing teachers!

The Youth Talent Department offers a diverse array of courses for the Fall Semester, with several new additions, including ACT Math/Calculus by teacher Jim Liu, Singapore Math by teacher Baoqing Sun, Introduction to Business by teacher Xinshuai Qi, Fencing by teacher Hossam Hassan, Public Speaking by teacher Tao Liao, Weaving by teacher Zhang Wen, and Debate by Ladue High School volunteer teachers, among others. These exciting courses offer a plethora of opportunities for students to explore their interests. Even if students do not take Chinese classes, they can still sign up for talent courses they are interested in. Chinese-American children of the same age face similar challenges and expectations, and at the Chinese school, they can make new friends and spend enjoyable Sunday afternoons together while developing their talents.

The school has retained most youth talent courses from the previous semester, including popular classes like children/adult painting classes by Alex and Lauren, Li Jianping's handicrafts, Rubik's Cube class, Kpop by April Zhang, children's dance by Liu Bei, ethnic dance for youth by He Jiangying, Xu's chess class, Wang Yu's singing class, Yang Shichen's Python programming class, Paul Lee's kung fu class, etc. The youth lion dance team, which was well-known last semester, is actively recruiting new members. Students interested in traditional culture are welcome to join the lion dance team and continue their glorious journey in the new semester.

The Adult Department offers new courses such as photography critiques by teacher Lu Zhi and internal energy Tai Chi by teacher Liao Subo. These excellent classes by photography and Tai Chi masters are worth experiencing.

The adult talent courses are also diverse, including vocal classes by Shen Na, Zumba and yoga by Tian Jing, classical adult dance and Hanfu fashion show by He Jiangying, Introduction to Calligraphy by Liu Sun, photography intermediate and advanced classes as well as outdoor photography classes by Lu Zhi, Tai Chi Sword and Tai Chi health preservation and old frame by Xie Yan, Chen-style Tai Chi and Tai Chi fan by Judy, Chen-style Tai Chi Second Routine and Water Cloud Tai Chi Fan by Zeng Qin, and Seven-Star Sword by Liao Subo.

Thanks to Coach Wang Jinhai and Coach Zhang Sanhong for their efforts in rebuilding the badminton court, and registration for adult badminton continues to be popular in the new semester. If the above courses do not meet your needs, please stay tuned as we are considering adding new classes!

In terms of community service courses, we will continue with the well-received Adult English beginners' class by Zhang Ying. Students' family members who have registered for other courses at our school can continue to attend the class for free or apply for a registration fee waiver.

Efree Chinese Fellowship holds weekly seminars on faith and life, providing free opportunities for parents to discuss the meaning of life. The topics are down-to-earth and the form is relaxed. The fellowship will invite speakers with rich life experiences to organize discussions. Parents are welcome to relieve stress and answer questions here.

Acquiring the new location has not been easy, and it requires the care and attention of all teachers, parents, and students. We especially remind parent volunteers to help maintain classroom and school order. Parents with children attending Chinese classes, please select a duty date in your account.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at stlcls@stlcls.org or call 314-325-6971 (text message preferred).

Thank you all! With a new semester, a new location, and new opportunities, we'll see you at Efree!
