聖路易中文學校試加了幾們課, 包括和聖路易科學館合教“第一手中國科學”

聖路易中文學校應學生們的需要, 新試加了幾們課,也同時為學生們提供了更多的選擇, 這些新課是“第一手中國科學”, “我最想學的中文是。。。”, “服務課” 和”中文網站”課。。

聖路易中文學校和聖路易科學館將合教“第一手中國科學”. 這一們動手學中國科學的課程是按照全美國知名的”第一手科學“ http://firsthandlearning.org 課程設計﹕老師們引導初中學生動手學科學﹐需要時請專家們實際或 網上指導﹐學生和全美其它第一手科學的成員們上網播客. 第一手科學全美知名, 參加的學生們可以把學習心得放入大學申請書裡,　 聖路易科學館將邀請自願固定幫忙輔導的家長專家們免費成為聖路易科學館的會員. 聖路易科學館和聖路易中文學校也同時將中國科學引進”第一手科學“的課程裡。第一手科學將負擔所有和中國科學課程有關的教學開支.

聖路易中文學校將每星期天動手學和探討”中國科學”. 最高班的學生們可以在前兩小時新增的“我最想學的中文是。。。”或“服務課“時間學中國科學.　九歲以上的學生們可以在第三節課外活動時選修”中國科學”. 課程探討深淺度將視學生們的年紀、知識、興趣、時間和學習力而定.

聖路易中文學校為最高班的學生們在前兩小時新增的“我最想學的中文是。。。”課是鼓勵最高班的學生們在學會了教課書知識以後,自選最有與趣的中文題材去學習和發表, 需要時和輔導老師和專家研討.“服務課”是學生們適學校(為主)和中國社團的需要, 按與趣做和中文題材有關的服務工作,藉機增加學習和應用中文的機會. 學生們在學期末發表學習成果. 最高班的學生們選的學習的題材或服務工作如果和中國科學有關時,就可以和第一手中國科學的課程互相配合.

九歲以上的學生們選修第三節課外活動”中國科學”時,可以彼此惱力激盪,共同定出想學的主題. 目前第一課是養蠶。

聖路易中文學校同時試開”中文網站” 課外活動選修課, 這們課由學校的電腦智囊團輔導. 目前這們課將幫一年一度的中華日設計網站.

每一門新課需要有足夠的學生們才開課.

St. Louis Chinese Language School is piloting several classes, including “Chinese Science Firsthand” which teams up with the St. Louis Science Center.

St. Louis Chinese Language School is piloting several new classes to provide more choices and to meet the students’ needs. The new classes are “Chinese Science Firsthand”, “Pick Your Passion”, “Service Project”, and the “Chinese Web Design” classes.

The “Chinese Science Firsthand” program will be taught by the St. Louis Science Center and the St. Louis Chinese Language School. Our parents, teachers and the facilitator from the Science Center will lead the students to investigate the Chinese Science with a hands-on curriculum. The design of this curriculum follows the nationwide Science Firsthand program; http://firsthandlearning.org. The teachers and the mentors facilitate the science investigation on site or on line. The student blogs with other members. This is a well recognized, nationwide program; therefore, participating students can put their experience on their college applications. Parents who mentor students of this program on a regular basis will be provided with memberships to the Science Center. The Chinese Science curriculum will be developed by the St. Louis Science Center and the St. Louis Chinese Language School. All teaching related material for this class will be covered by the Science Firsthand nationwide program.

Students in the new “Pick Your Passion” or “Service Project” classes can explore Chinese Science Firsthand during the first two hours of the language class period while students 9 or older can take this class during the 3^rd. hr. as an enrichment activity. The level of investigation will be determined by the student’s age, knowledge, interest, time and ability.

The “Pick Your Passion” or “Service Project” classes are designed for students who have out grown the normal curriculum of their regular class.  In the “Pick Your Passion” class, the students choose a Chinese language or culturally related topic to learn, such as Chinese music and SAT II-Chinese.  They'll work with the facilitator and mentors when needed.  The “Service Project” will focus on our School's needs first, such as helping with our school’s newsletter. It may also be expanded to serve the Chinese language or cultural needs of various organizations within the Chinese Community. Student in these classes will present their service project at the end of the semester. The students can choose to be part of the Chinese Science Firsthand program if the topic or project of their choice is related to the Chinese Science.

Students 9 or older choose the “Chinese Science Firsthand” class as a 3^rd period enrichment activity where they will brainstorm for topics within the class. The first lesson planned is to learn the science of the “Chinese Silk Worm”.

The “Chinese Web” class is also a 3^rd period enrichment activity. It is facilitated by our school’s Computer Guru Committee. The 1^st real world project is to design the website for the annual Chinese Cultural Day held in May.

These new classes will be piloted if there is enough interest.
